[RBAC]. Within this research there has been a thread of work focusing on adding
parameters to the role and permissions within RBAC. The primary benefit of
parameter support in RBAC comes in the form of a significant increase in
specificity in how permissions may be granted. This paper focuses on
implementing a parameterized implementation based heavily upon existing
standards
Evolution and Expression of MYB Genes in Diploid and Polyploid Cotton
R2R3-MYB transcription factors have been implicated in a diversity of plant-specific processes. Among the functions attributed to myb factors is the determination of cell shape, including regulation of trichome length and density. Because myb transcription factors are likely to play a role in cotton fiber development, the molecular evolutionary properties of six MYB genes previously shown to be expressed in cotton fiber initiation were examined. In accordance with their presumed central role, each of the genes display conservative substitution patterns and limited sequence divergence in diploid members of the genus Gossypium, and this pattern is conserved in allotetraploid cottons. In contrast to highly reiterated rDNA repeats, GhMYB homologues (duplicated gene pairs) exhibit no evidence of concerted evolution, but instead appear to evolve independently in the allopolyploid nucleus. Expression patterns for the MYB genes were examined in several organs to determine if there have been changes in expression patterns between the diploids (G. raimondii and G. arboreum) and the tetraploid (G. hirsutum) or between the duplicated copies in the tetraploid. Spatial and temporal expression patterns appear to have been evolutionarily conserved, both during divergence of the diploid parents of allopolyploid cotton and following polyploid formation. However, the duplicated copies of MYB1 in the tetraploid are not expressed at equal levels or equivalently in all organs, suggesting possible functional differentiation
Integrated acoustic and magnetic separation in microfluidic channels
With a growing number of cell-based biotechnological applications, there is a need for particle separation systems capable of multiparameter separations at high purity and throughput, beyond what is presently offered by traditional methods including fluorescence activated cell sorting and column-based magnetic separation. Toward this aim, we report on the integration of microfluidic acoustic and magnetic separation in a monolithic device for multiparameter particle separation. Using our device, we demonstrate high-purity separation of a multicomponent particle mixture at a throughput of up to 10(8) particles/hr. (C) 2009 American Institute of Physics. Feedback and Fluctuations in a Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process with Finite Resources
We revisit a totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) with open
boundaries and a global constraint on the total number of particles [Adams, et.
al. 2008 J. Stat. Mech. P06009]. In this model, the entry rate of particles
into the lattice depends on the number available in the reservoir. Thus, the
total occupation on the lattice feeds back into its filling process. Although a
simple domain wall theory provided reasonably good predictions for Monte Carlo
simulation results for certain quantities, it did not account for the
fluctuations of this feedback. We generalize the previous study and find
dramatically improved predictions for, e.g., the density profile on the lattice
and provide a better understanding of the phenomenon of "shock localization."Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, v2: Minor change
The Circumstellar Disk Mass Distribution in the Orion Trapezium Cluster
We present the results of a submillimeter interferometric survey of
circumstellar disks in the Trapezium Cluster of Orion. We observed the 880
micron continuum emission from 55 disks using the Submillimeter Array, and
detected 28 disks above 3sigma significance with fluxes between 6-70 mJy and
rms noise between 0.7-5.3 mJy. Dust masses and upper limits are derived from
the submillimeter excess above free-free emission extrapolated from longer
wavelength observations. Above our completeness limit of 0.0084 solar masses,
the disk mass distribution is similar to that of Class II disks in
Taurus-Auriga and rho Ophiuchus but is truncated at 0.04 solar masses. We show
that the disk mass and radius distributions are consistent with the formation
of the Trapezium Cluster disks ~1 Myr ago and subsequent photoevaporation by
the ultraviolet radiation field from Theta-1 Ori C. The fraction of disks which
contain a minimum mass solar nebula within 60 AU radius is estimated to be
11-13% in both Taurus and the Trapezium Cluster, which suggests the potential
for forming Solar Systems is not compromised in this massive star forming

Competition for finite resources
The resources in a cell are finite, which implies that the various components
of the cell must compete for resources. One such resource is the ribosomes used
during translation to create proteins. Motivated by this example, we explore
this competition by connecting two totally asymmetric simple exclusion
processes (TASEPs) to a finite pool of particles. Expanding on our previous
work, we focus on the effects on the density and current of having different
